Artists from Canonsburg \u2013 a town of 8,900 \u2013 have placed nearly 200 songs on the Billboard pop charts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Inductees, who had to have a hit prior to 1970 to be considered, were selected from 40 nominees chosen on the breadth, depth and influence of their recordings. These, <em>alphabetically<\/em>, are the first inductees into America\u2019s Pop Music Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>They brought surf music and \u201cPet Sounds\u201d to America\u2026.The Beach Boys.<\/li>\n<li>Even today, pop music is defined as what came before and after this band\u2026.The Beatles<\/li>\n<li>He is known as \u201cThe Man in Black\u201d\u2026.Johnny Cash<\/li>\n<li>He is credited with creating the first soul record\u2026.Ray Charles<\/li>\n<li>An \u2018unforgettable\u2019 artist of the \u201840s, \u201850s and \u201860s\u2026.Nat King Cole<\/li>\n<li>The singing barber from Canonsburg\u2026Perry Como<\/li>\n<li>He hit the charts with pop, rock, country and Broadway tunes\u2026Bobby Darin<\/li>\n<li>Stellar singer and songwriter from the Brill Building days\u2026Neil Diamond<\/li>\n<li>She\u2019s forever known as Little Miss Dynamite\u2026.Brenda Lee<\/li>\n<li><strong>The king of romance, he\u2019s \u201cWonderful Wonderful\u201d\u2026Johnny Mathis<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The King of Rock and Roll had plenty of pop hits, too\u2026Elvis Presley<\/li>\n<li>He\u2019s the chairman of the board\u2026Frank Sinatra<\/li>\n<li>The Polish Prince \u2013 and he\u2019s from Canonsburg \u2026 Bobby Vinton<\/li>\n<li>The eighth wonder of the world\u2026Stevie Wonder<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">These artists will be formally inducted into the Pop Music Hall of Fame on July 3, 2013. \u00a0The temporary home of America\u2019s Pop Music Hall of Fame is expected to open this fall on Pike Street in Canonsburg.
