As some of you may know Richard Holsten, Johnny\u2019s Lighting Designer, passed away on Monday January 14th<\/sup> 2013. We will be posting tributes for Richard here as we receive them.<\/p>\n

From Richard’s stepdaughter Michelle. An untitled poem written by Richard:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

My Heart is in the mountains of my youth<\/p>\n

Those peaks that, lofty, stand as sentinels<\/p>\n

Drawing me to stands of pine and chuckling streams<\/p>\n

Singing praise to God, Creator and Master<\/p>\n

Who gave that we might Joy.<\/p>\n

Sharing all, His plan,<\/p>\n

with those that love and cherish.<\/p>\n

Giving all to those who would but ask.<\/p>\n

Gentle breezes filled with love<\/p>\n

Transport a heavenly perfume of Nature’s gift<\/p>\n

To all who would but heed the call<\/p>\n

Of love for fellow man.<\/p>\n

Hurting none, loving all,<\/p>\n

Gifts to self and God.<\/p>\n

This is why we’re here my friend<\/p>\n

For the glory of God<\/p>\n

And salvation of us all.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

My big brother, Richard, was always my hero. \u00a0I remember being so proud of him watching him as \u201cBiff\u201d in \u201cDeath of a Salesman\u201d at Idaho State University. \u00a0As time went by and his career developed, it was very exciting and special to know he worked for Johnny Mathis.
\u00a0
He was generous and kind to all. \u00a0Richard put together a coin collection of coins from all over the world for my children. \u00a0Later on, bringing our mother to visit in Oregon, he bought big stuffed bunnies for his three great nieces and nephew. \u00a0They still have them. \u00a0My handicapped Grandson still sleeps with his, refusing to give it up at the age of twenty.

When my husband cut himself while cutting wood with a chainsaw, Richard took it upon himself to clean up the pickup Jack had driven to get help for himself, to save me from that burden.
\u00a0
These are just a few of the examples of the many acts of kindness and generosity I witnessed.
\u00a0
Richard was quick thinking, funny and warm. \u00a0It was always a special time to have him come and visit. \u00a0
\u00a0
A light went out when he left this world. \u00a0He will be missed so very much by his entire family.<\/span><\/p>\n
